Nyasa Daughters of Nottingham (NDN) is a grass roots community organisation established in 2014 for women and children of Malawian origin living in Nottingham. Nottingham city has seen an increase in Malawian families settling in the city. A significant number of women are facing poverty either due to destitution or change in immigration status.
This means that poverty, social exclusion and poor mental health among others are prevalent in the community. NDN was formed as a response to how as a community we all can come together and make a difference.
NDN focuses on tackling issues within the community that are specific to women. We encourage members to meet regularly and also to participate in activities. Always, the focus is women and children.
We have run a Healthy Eating project, family Christmas Party, Panto trips, games in the park for the mothers and children, baby showers and support during bereavement and hospitalisation. We also seek to empower our members with career guidance, courses and skills support.
NDN seeks to create an environment within women that fosters openness and help from within and also to work in partnership with other local organisations.
